MIECHV Award to Serve Pennsylvania Families with Evidence-Based Home Visiting Services

The HRSA Recently Awarded $11,704,276 to Support Pennsylvania Families Through the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV Program).

These funds will allow Pennsylvania to continue to provide voluntary, evidence-based home visiting services to women during pregnancy, and to parents with young children up to kindergarten entry.

Home visiting services can provide families with:

  • Prenatal care
  • Caring for a new baby
  • Breastfeeding
  • Sleeping
  • Child development
  • Health and nutrition

The program supports pregnant women and at-risk families, and gives the necessary resources and skills to raise children who are physically, socially, and emotionally healthy and ready to learn. It allows parents and caregivers to connect with the vital resources they need to support their families and provide opportunities for their children by connecting them with trained professionals in a variety of disciplines.

Home Visiting services may also help families:

  • Improve health
  • Create plans for education or a new job
  • Use a positive parenting approach
  • Reduce stress that can lead to child neglect or abuse
  • Connect with other resources in the community
